In the fall of 2016, we approached the local elementary school to provide on-site services to begin building relationships with the community and children. Glendale-Kenly has a weekly "club" time where students can choose an activity of interest and the administration was more than happy to have us come in to provide one of the clubs. Cary chose model rocketry for our club as this was something that he was fascinated with as a child and thought that other children would enjoy as well. Rocketry also provides many opportunities to tie in Math and Science principles, making it educational as well as fun.
The Board of "I See You" chose to provide 48 rocket kits to 24 4th graders and 24 5th graders at the school. Volunteers from the ministry went in to the school weekly for 8 weeks to assist with building the rockets and setting up launch parameters. At the end of the semester, we held a contest to see whose rocket flew the highest, landed closest to the launch pad, and had the best construction.
Winners were provided with a gift card to a local restaurant and bragging rights at the Science Night held at the school. They also got to participate in an assembly where they were able to launch their rockets one more time in front of their grade level peers.
We are back again for the 2017-18 school year, working with 4th and 5th graders. 5th graders that were in the Rocket Club last year are working on a larger, more powerful rocket to launch. Plans are for next semester to begin working with 3rd graders on wood working projects. All club materials are funded by "I See You" ministries and we thank you for your continued support!
